Wanna Go to Our Nation’s Capital, but where do I start? « Under the Dome Travel

Washington Monument Travel to DCIt is a pilgrimage for most Americans to travel to our Nation’s Capital and pay homage to our Founding Fathers.  Although, planning the trip may prove to be overwhelming.  Start with the basics…where, when, and how much would you like to spend. The where and when can have many factors, but the cost is surprising less than you think.  For two people, you could spend anywhere from $1,500-$2,000 on air, and lodging for a five-day trip.   That is on average and pricing could go up or down from that depending on your comfort level and amenities.

Next, what to see can depend also on how much you would like to spend.  Transportation could play a factor as well.  If you want to visit the Smithsonian for example and you ride the metro and bring a sandwich, you could spend less than $10 a day!  Although, some of D.C.’s biggest attractions such as the International Spy Museum, or the Newseum could cost you $20-30 per person.

If you are planning to travel to Washington, D.C. and you want to visit the political sites (the White House, or The Capitol), then make sure to plan ahead.  Congressional Tours, and White House Tours need to be planned months in advance.

As with any trip, take it slow, plan in advance, and make sure to have fun!
